Welcome

The original warrant was issued at the formation of the Grand Lodge of British America in the year of 1830. Although there are records of meetings prior to this date. The Peel Archives holds a print of the first Orange Parade from Grahamsville (Peel County) to York in 1812. there is also records that show that an application was submitted and that L.O.L No'5 should have actually been L.O.L No' 4 but Grand Lodge of British America in their infinite wisdom awarded Brampton with the No' 5 Warrant.

Loyal Orange Lodge No' 5 was originally from Orangedale (now Brampton) Burnett J.P Born in 1847 County Tyrone Northern Ireland, Organized Loyal Orange Lodge No' 604 which later amalgamated with Loyal Orange Lodge No' 5 sometime around the late 1800's Loyal Orange Lodge No' 5 and Loyal Orange Lodge No' 10 Originally From Derry West, amalgamated to form Loyal Orange Lodge No' 3174 Brampton, I'm guessing this happened around the 1930's at this time I can't locate any records for L.O.L 3174 but the present warrant for Loyal Orange Lodge No' 5 was reissued after WWII in 1945.

Some interesting notes:

In 1834 Joesph Chambers was County Grand Treasurer and Master of L.O.L No' 5 Orangedale

A warrant for Loyal Ornage Lodge No' 105 appeared in Brampton in 1858.

William Cage was a member of L.O.L No' 5 and left in 1854 and reappeared as Master of L.O.L No' 946 Brampton 10 years later, this Brampton lodge only lasted a few years and records are very scarce regarding this lodge but there is records stating that the warrant for L.O.L 946 was reissued to East Wellington in 1870.

Brampton held a Provincial Grand Lodge Meeting 1863

L.O.L No' 10 last known appearance in Derry West was 1881 the same year L.O.L No' 157 was recorded being in Brampton, by 1885 L.O.L No' 105 warrant was reissued to a Toronto lodge and L.O.L No' 10 was flourshing in Brampton.

Royal Black Preceptory No' 111 lapsed in 1874 but revived in 1884, some thirty years later the preceptory moved to Brampton from Streetsville.

The 31st Meeting of the Grand Lodge of Ontario West was held in Brampton 1890

Thomas Moore was made an Honorary Member of L.O.L No' 5 in 1929 after 60 years Orange Service, he moved to Brampton in 1893.

In 1936 - an estimated 6,000 Orangemen paraded in Brampton after processions in Toronto.

After going through a lean time in the 1970's and the 1980's the lodge now has a membership of more than 70, and has produced numerous Peel County Masters and Officers.

If you would like more information regarding the history of the Loyal Orange Association in the Peel County area, I highly recommend reading this book: From the Boyne to Brampton.

This is one of the few books that can be read online at the Peel online digital archives
